We Are Matugga
SCOTTISH CRAFT, AFRICAN SOUL

An Origin Story like No Other
Our company and brands draw upon our rich ‘Rum Triad’ – rooted in Jamaica’s rum making traditions; showcasing the culture and flavours of East Africa; blended with Scotland’s proud distilling heritage.
We have substantial ties to Uganda, and our team shares a common desire to support the livelihoods of sugar cane growers in East Africa. With this at the forefront of our thought process, we are developing a sugar cane plantation on our family land in Matugga that will employ and train local agricultural workers. By harvesting cane from our land and converting it into high quality distilling molasses we will also become a “Cane to Cask” rum producer.
PASSION AND CRAFT IN EVERY BOTTLE
Our mission is to produce a maverick range of artisan rums for those looking for greater authenticity, increased quality and genuine depth of flavour.
Born from our desire to create world leading spirits, our rums are uncompromising on quality and crafted from scratch using only the finest ingredients and processes – including a degree of wild fermentation and 100% copper pot distillation.
Every batch of spirit is meticulously managed by Paul, Head Distiller. A rum and whisky connoisseur and a civil engineer by profession, Paul perfected his distilling skills at Heriot-Watt University.
The UK craft rum category is relatively new. We are writing the rulebook as we push the boundaries of what has gone before. This approach leads to new and exciting rums that offer surprising flavour and character in every bottle.
